You have surely noticed that drone racing is the new trend among drone enthusiasts. Many renowned companies have realized this and decided to enter into this new expanding market. One of the latest drone manufacturers to do so is Cheerson which has produced a very affordable drone. After global successes with products such as Cheerson CX-20 and CX-35, the company tackles the FPV Drone Racing market pretty well.
Therefore, today we review Cheerson’s first brushless drone racer. And since our goal at DroneReviewed is to bring you the most valuable information possible, today we are taking a deeper look into Cheerson CX 91 Jumper and analyze if this drone racer represents a good value for your money or not. Keep in mind that Cheerson CX 91 is a beginner to intermediate entry towards FPV racing and is not a fully professional racing drone. This is definitely a budget drone under $300.
Note: We are reviewing the upgraded version of Cheerson CX-91.
First of all, it is very important to mention that the Cheerson CX 91 comes in a complete FPV (First Person View) package, ready to fly out of the box with no assembly needed. Consequently, it is a great product for all kinds of flight skill levels. From beginners to experts, the CX 91 suits every pilot. CX 91 Jumper is very maneuverable and has maximum top speed (right out of the box with no modifications) of 80 km per hour (49.7 miles per hour) which is more than enough for you to learn and practice how to fly a racing drone.
Unfortunately, Cheerson has decided to use ABS Plastic on CX 91 Jumper which means that there is no Carbon Fiber and that makes the CX 91 a not very durable drone.
Overall, the quadcopter weighs around 420g (with battery) and has a 31 x 31 x 12 cm size. It is not one of the lightest of racers, but will definitely match some competitors on the racing track!
Cheerson CX 91 packs an interesting and useful set of features. Firstly, it has two flight modes as the Stabilize and Manual. On Stabilize Mode, CX 91 can autonomously balance itself out. This mode is aimed at beginners as it enables a much easier control of the quadcopter. Manual Mode puts the control entirely in the pilot hands, therefore suitable for expert flyers. Besides all this, it also includes a safety function for when the battery starts running low, CX 91 will land itself, avoiding sudden falls.
Now let’s discuss the built-in camera and its real time video transmission capabilities. As previously mentioned, Cheerson CX 91 comes with a complete FPV package ready to fly out of the box, thus meaning it needs its own FPV camera.
A 2 MP HD camera with fairly good image quality capable of recording at 720P resolution. Live video is transmitted directly to a 4.3” FPV monitor placed on the 2.4 GHz remote controller. This FPV screen has a snowflake screen and it displays OSD data such as battery voltage and current FPV channels. Not the most complete OSD data, but still useful.
The 11.1 voltage, 1600mAh 35C, 3S battery powers up to 12 minutes of flight time. It is slightly above the average flight time, which is good. In case of battery running low, CX 91 has a safety system which will make the quadcopter to land safely, therefore avoiding hard crashes. The RC controller doesn’t use its own battery, instead is powered by four AA dry batteries.
Cheerson CX 91 is a very acrobatic flyer, and if you are not into drone racing you will surely love this quadcopter to perform aerial tricks. It has four tri-blade propellers. On Manual mode and with some training, you will be performing aerobatic loops, barrel rolls, and Immelmann’s to amaze everyone at the park or racing track.
The 32 channel, 2.4 GHz controller enables a control distance of 300 meters (same goes for FPV range provided by the mushroom antenna)
|THE GOOD||Cheerson CX 91 is an affordable racing / acrobatic quadcopter that you have been looking for. It comes with a complete FPV package ready to fly out of the box which is cool! Capable of hitting 80km per hour and flying for as long as 12 minutes! Set of features is useful although it is not the professional features one needs for professional racing. Built-in 2MP camera is good quality and provides decent footage and live video. The two flight modes make it a great fit for different flight skill levels, with Stabilization mode even beginners can have a good control of the quadcopter while the Manual Mode allows more intermediate and expert pilots to perform amazing aerial tricks.|
|THE BAD||The material is the biggest negative side of CX 91. ABS Plastic is not the most durable of materials, it would have been great to see Carbon Fiber being used on this drone but that would mean a higher price cost.|
|BOTTOM LINE||Overall, CX 91 is a great fit for both racing beginner~intermediate and acrobatic pilots. A very affordable and complete FPV package with all you need to fly right out of the box.|
