The short version

Should you buy it or keep it?

Keep the Mini 4 Pro if it already delivers the daylight footage and portrait clips you need. As a new purchase, it makes sense when a complete, well-supported kit costs meaningfully less than Mini 5 Pro. Its newer rival is easier to justify when camera limitations repeatedly spoil your work.

The useful version

A travel camera with room to grow

What still makes it useful

  • True vertical capture keeps portrait composition part of shooting, rather than an afterthought in editing.
  • Its compact travel format combines a stabilized camera with subject tracking and omnidirectional vision sensing.

Where its limits matter

  • A single wide camera cannot replace a separate telephoto lens, and high-resolution still modes do not guarantee better results in poor light.
  • Vision sensing needs suitable conditions. The Mini 4 Pro has no forward LiDAR, and neither sensing nor tracking makes a complex route safe.

Camera quality depends on the job

TechRadar’s Mini 4 Pro review found impressive overall image quality and advised using its lower-resolution still mode in low light, reserving the higher-resolution mode for better conditions. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not DroneReviewed measurements.

For daytime travel footage, good exposure and controlled movement may matter more to your finished video than replacing this camera. Check your existing clips at the resolution you deliver. If they already work, the newest sensor is a weak reason to replace batteries and charging equipment.

Pixpro’s paired Mini 4 Pro and Mini 5 Pro samples showed a modest still-photo improvement and a more noticeable video improvement in its comparison. That helps identify an upgrade to investigate; it does not establish the same benefit for every scene or editing workflow. Our Mini 4 Pro vs Mini 5 Pro comparison explains how to make that choice.

Portrait capture and flight assistance

The rotating gimbal is useful when vertical video is a planned deliverable. Frame the subject for portrait output in the air instead of relying on a later crop. Both this model and Mini 5 Pro offer true vertical shooting, so upgrading is not necessary just to gain that workflow.

Tracking is assistance for an already suitable flight path. Practice in open space, keep the aircraft in sight and inspect the return route. Thin branches, wires, water and difficult lighting can defeat sensing. See the Return to Home guide before relying on automation.

The package decides the value

A low aircraft-only price does not describe a ready-to-fly kit. Check the included controller, healthy batteries, charging equipment and storage. A phone controller needs your compatible phone; a screen-controller bundle has a different total. Treat account unbinding, condition checks and written return terms as part of a used purchase.

DJI’s published weight bound uses a specific standard-battery configuration. A larger battery or accessories can change the flying weight. Check your operating category and US registration requirements before treating a Mini as exempt.

DJI’s after-sales policy ties warranty service to the purchase service region. Ask who handles a repair and where it goes. A seller’s imported-stock claim does not establish US coverage. This review’s stock check describes DJI’s direct store on the stated date, not every retailer; availability receives a 30-day review.

The decision

Keep the capable kit; upgrade for a reason

The Mini 4 Pro remains worth keeping when it does the job. Buy one when its complete-kit saving survives condition and support checks. Pay for Mini 5 Pro when you can name the camera or workflow limit it will solve, rather than simply wanting the newer model.
